Everyday curriculum
At LBCDC, we believe that the most learning happens through play. This is why we follow The Creative Curriculum for all of our learning. What is The Creative Curriculum, you might ask? The Creative Curriculum is one in which students learn through creative and active teaching strategies. Creative curriculum gets beyond rote learning and focuses on big ideas, interesting projects, and individual students' passions and needs.
Storytelling
Here at Little Bulldogs, a lot of our work revolves around storytelling and themes. We focus each week on a different theme and have a wide variety of stories to fit that theme. Some themes we have done include camping, dinosaurs, space, Cat in the Hat, Christmas, farming, and many more! We also are active participants in the Raising a Reader Program with our friends at the Wayne County Public Library!
Arts & crafts
We pride ourselves on on the growth of children through open ended prompts and creative freedom. Although we do have some structured crafts that fit our themes and holidays, most of our crafts are free choice and open to interpretation by the children. Many of our crafts are mixed media and allow the children to use the artform of their choice to complete the prompt at hand. We allow the children to use their imaginations and tell us stories about their artwork, as well.
Celebrations & holidays
Being a faith based center, LBCDC celebrates all holidays of the Christian religion as well as Federal Holidays such as Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Memorial Day, and others. We also take two days out of each year as Professional Development Days for our staff for classroom preparation, trainings, or team building activities.
